There are several alternative ways to get out into the High Country and the most atmospheric is on horseback, just like the mountain's early pioneers.
Saddle up and explore Mt Stirling like the Man from Snowy River, roaming freely along mountain ridges and through wide-open fields. You can even join a guided tour with one of the local horsemen. Horse riding is available outside of the winter period only.
Horse Riding activities on Mt Stirling are permitted between 1 November and 30 April each year. There are lots of fantastic rides for all ages and abilities, including trips to Craig's Hut and summit tours. Day trips and overnight horse rides are also available.
Please note: A number of trails on Mt Stirling are shared by walkers, mountain bikers and horses. Always give way to others - other trail users have the same rights as you. Anticipate other trail users around corners or in blind spots. When you do come across other trail users let them know you’re coming – a friendly greeting is considerate and works well.
